Other Critic Reviews European in feel, Indian in texture and supremely secular in its view of love, loyalty and other passionate eruptions, "Awarapan" is one of those tightly-wound thriller-dramas where the outflow of emotions is so controlled that you forget the implausibility of the plot. Rating:  'Awaarapan' is a good movie with splendid performances by the lead actors, great music and brilliant direction. However the film isn't without it share of negatives. There are few disturbing scenes for the family audiences. The film is a bit violent and gory. - Abhi 'Awaarapan' directed by the talented Mohit Suri ('Woh Lamhe', 'Zeher'), is a blend of complex situations and shades leading to complex emotions and the result of these complexities is the amalgamation of love, passion, loyalty, revenge and an ultimate betrayal. Shivam (Emraan Hashmi) whose existence had just no meaning leads a purposeless and hard-hearted life. His past devastated him from the reason for living. He wanted to forget the bitter past that haunted his life. With no one to live for, his only job was to serve his Hong Kong based boss Malik (Ashutosh Rana), a gangster who owned a chain of hotels. Malik trusts his mistress Reema, whom he got from the flesh market of Bangkok, in Shivam's hands and asks him to keep an eye on her. Reema, a girl so innocent and lovely could melt the strongest of hearts. Being with her, Shivam saw his life taking an unpredicted and strange twist. He felt the beautiful moments from the bitter past repeat, the love he once had, where he had found peace and serenity. His attraction towards her grew stronger and when he decided to take this happiness further, a bitter reality comes to light once again shattering all his hopes of life. Does he force his love on Reema or helps her elope or turns to be a loyal servant to his master. forms the rest of the story. 'Awaarapan' is interesting. An example of a story well told and director Mohit Suri deserves all the credit. It's a shame that bigger banners like Yashraj Films don't work with talented directors who work harder on the script rather than just gloss and glamour. Music by Pritam is good. 'To Phir Aao' and 'Tera Mera Rishta' stand out. Cinematography is average. Some of the scenes in the movie could have been brighter. The dialogues are yet another positive. Emraan Hashmi carries the movie on his shoulders and delivers a scintillating performance which will be remembered for quite sometime. Shriya Sharan, the Sivaji girl, looks ethereal and performs well. Ashutosh Rana is brilliant and so is Mrinalini. Purab Kohli and Salil Acharya are good. The rest of the actors are wasted. So to sum things up, 'Awaarapan' is a good movie with splendid performances by the lead actors, great music and brilliant direction. However the film isn't without it share of negatives.
